Today in Southern labor history, on January 31, we remember the Pecan Shellers Strike in San Antonio, Texas, in 1938. In 1938, San Antonio’s Mexican-American and Mexican immigrant workers who worked in the city’s booming Pecan industry walked off the job on strike to protest the dangerous working conditions and low wages.
