Putting the “X” in experimental, the Grumman X-29 was – let’s just say – pretty gnarly looking! Only two were ever built to test forward-swept wings and canard control surfaces. Today it celebrates its 40th first flight anniversary! We were super fortunate to have one at Oshkosh in 1990, as flight testing ended only a year later. Anyone here to see it in person?
