Why can’t you divide by zero? Not for the reason most people think. Division asks: how many copies of the divisor sum to the dividend? When we say 10÷2=5, we mean two groups of 5 add back to 10. For 1÷0, we’re asking: how many zeros add to 1? Add zero plus zero, you’re still at zero. Add infinitely many more, and you never reach anything other than zero.
