Toads migrate to their ancestral breeding ponds each year, regardless of what gets in their way. Over time, their migration routes have been obstructed and now toads face the perilous journey of crossing our busy roads. Luckily, our toad patrol volunteers at Haddon Wood in Somerset are on hand to help them cross safely. The volunteers use buckets to collect any toads that attempt to cross the road and safely transport them to the destination side of the road. | The Woodland Trust

🐸 Why did the toad cross the road? To reach it’s ancestral mating ground! Known to travel miles back to the same location to breed each year, the toad migration will be noticeable this month. They travel regardless of obstacles so keep a careful watch when driving or walking. Toads secrete a toxin which makes them undesirable to fish, meaning that they can mate and lay eggs in deeper ponds than frogs. | Suffolk Wildlife Trust
