Winter operations here at Mount Rainier are no picnic in the park! In winter, rangers in cooperation with the Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC) maintain the 24hr snow total telemetry board at Paradise. The board automatically measures the snow as it accumulates throughout the day, and that information is used in avalanche forecasting as well as collected for historical data.
