The MV Derbyshire was a massive British bulk carrier, launched in 1976. At the time, it was one of the largest ships of its kind, designed to carry ore and oil across the oceans. In September 1980, on a voyage from Canada to Japan with a cargo of iron ore, the ship sailed straight into the heart of Typhoon Orchid in the South China Sea.
