At least six muskrats were out and about along Lake Wingra’s shore this morning—coming and going from what’s likely their burrow. These semi-aquatic engineers are more than just cute faces! Muskrats build with and munch on cattails (even the invasive ones). In doing so, they help keep aggressive cattails in check and open up space for other native plants to thrive.
