The park was designed by Bobby Weed, and is meant to illustrate the ecosystem of Northeast Florida, while also highlighting the flora and fauna. Who else needs a little dip in the warm Sarasota Bay water at Bird Key Park? NOTE: Please note dogs must be on a leash at Bird Key Park (as with all other open parks except Paws Park & Brohard Beach in Venice near Caspersen Beach where dogs at the beach may run off-leash). I've heard from several people over the years who've discovered not knowing is not a defense against a violation when big signs clearly show that dogs are not allowed or are not allowed off leash.
