Do you know what a batholith is? Made up of solid granite, a batholith is formed by a whole lot of magma that fed volcanoes. Once it loses its heat, it turns from a liquid to granite, and slowly lifts as the surrounding material erodes away, leaving the granite exposed. One such batholith is the 48-million year old Liberty Bell in Washington Pass.
