This past year, we captured several instances of wolves chasing deer. Such footage is quite rare (at least for us!) but as we get more cameras our ability to capture and share footage like this is increasing, which is exciting! We do not know what happened in any of these chases (i.e., did the wolf catch the deer or not?). Some pretty fascinating and rare footage of wolves hunting deer this past winter from 7 hunting sequences. Of course, wolves hunting deer is a regular occurrence in many areas but observing multiple hunting sequences is practically impossible given the dense forests and lack of visibility. Some rare footage of a wolf chasing a deer from this summer. The wolf was not successful and quickly gave up, which is not surprising as wolves very rarely kill adult deer during the summer. The wolf chasing the deer was the breeding male of the Shoepack Lake Pack and the rest of his pack was in tow, including two pups.
