My main aim when painting any eye is to capture as much of the 3D sphere shape as possible. At the later stages of the layering process I start to refine my contrast by lightening any areas of the iris and enhancing the darker values at the top and edges of the eye. In this painting that is achieved by adding the subtle shadows created by the fur above the eye and the shadow of the top eyelid.
