Most of the fire personnel at LAFD station 9, based on Skid Row, move on after two or three years, says firefighter Steven Oransky. The station is known to be a tight-knit group, but the stresses of dealing with the homeless population can wear on first responders. This is Oransky’s last night at station 9. LAFD HISTORY: 44 Years Ago Today On January 28, 1981, Apparatus Operator Thomas Taylor was killed in the line of duty during a roof collapse at the Cugee's Restaurant structure fire. AO Taylor's locker at Fire Station 60 remains untouched and the crew continue a special bond with his extended family - even though many members were not yet born when he died. As Captain (Ret) Michael Reagan (who was seriously injured in the roof collapse) says best, it is in the DNA of Fire Station 60. This video
