Vertical ventilation in firefighting is a tactical operation where firefighters release heat, smoke, and toxic gases from a burning structure by creating an opening in the highest point of the building—usually the roof. 👉 Purpose: ➡️To improve visibility inside the structure for search and rescue or interior attack. ➡️To reduce heat and smoke buildup, making conditions safer for firefighters and trapped occupants. ➡️To prevent flashover or backdraft by controlling the movement of hot gases. The hook firefighter on the roof team is a a vital element of the ventilation operation. Here we see a team working on a flat roof.
