Euglena is a very special microalga. It is photosynthetic when there is light enough in the environment, but when it is not, Euglena can lose their chloropolasts and feed heterothophycally by hunting other small microorganisms as ciliates or bacteria. It has a red dot called stigma located near the base of the two apical flagella, and it serves as photoreceptor for the orientation of the alga towards the light source. Hello everyone! These are two Euglena stuck in a drying slide. It kinda looks like… ahh… two marbles… ahh.. hanging in a sack. 😂 . Euglena are photosynthetic single-celled organisms. They form these round structures inside a mucus layer called the palmella when the environmental conditions are not favorable. In palmella they wait for things to get better. . But in the meantime, they move and roll and rotate. Sometimes, they even go through cell division. Sure they know how to kill time. Today,
