What exactly is electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and why is it so stigmatized? | TED-Ed

ECT is so interesting to me and it seems like such an archaic form of therapy, crazy enough, we still use it today. ECT induces a 20-50 second seizure for patients suffering with depression, catatonia, bipolar, neuromalignant syndrome, and psychosis. ECT is most effective over many treatments, typically several per week over the span of multiple weeks. It even has a 70-90% success rate.
