Types of Bonds in Chemistry. 1. Ionic Bond Formed by transfer of electrons from one atom to another. One atom becomes positively charged (cation) and the other becomes negatively charged (anion). Strong electrostatic attraction between opposite ions. Example: NaCl (Sodium Chloride). 2. Covalent Bond Formed by sharing of electrons between atoms. Occurs usually between non-metals.
