Today BNSF proudly celebrates 175 years of service! On February 12, 1849, the Illinois General Assembly chartered the very first BNSF predecessor: the Aurora Branch Railroad. Just a six-mile-long track between Batavia, Illinois, and West Chicago, the Aurora Branch chugged along with borrowed equipment and secondhand steel tracks.
