✨ A Glimpse into a Star’s Final Breath – The Dumbbell Nebula (M27) ✨ At Battlesteads Observatory, our astronomer Jimmy left his telescope quietly tracking the sky while guiding guests through the wonders of the universe. By the end of the evening, his camera had caught something extraordinary: photons that have travelled 1,360 light-years to reach us, from a star in its final act. What you see here is Messier 27 – the Dumbbell Nebula – the ghostly remains of a sun-like star that ran out of fuel.

Messier 82 (M82) is a starburst galaxy – it is forming new stars at a rate much faster than expected for a galaxy of its size 🏭⭐ When looking at M82 in visible light, the hotbed of star formation at its centre is obscured by dusty clouds.
